8,500 people die of AIDS everyday
in spite of the fact that lifesaving medication for the disease
does exist. PILLS PROFITS PROTEST is an up-to-the
minute documentary about global AIDS activism and the demand for
universal access to affordable treatment for the 40 million people,
around the world, living with HIV.
Made by acclaimed AIDS journalist Anne-Christine
d’Adesky, and co-directors Shanti Avirgan and Ann T. Rossetti,
PILLS PROFITS PROTEST travels through Africa, Brazil,
India, and the United States connecting the dots between communities
in need of HIV medicines, the activists fighting for their cause,
and the governments and multinational drug industries whose greed
prevents the availability of such treatments. By closely examining
the AIDS epidemic through a human rights lens, this documentary
presents a clear view of the facts surrounding the on-going struggle
for accessibility to HIV therapy, and serves as an excellent tool
for mobilizing grass-roots activists concerned with public health
and the fight for social justice.
PILLS PROFITS PROTEST will air on December
1, 2005 as part of Showtime’s commemoration of World AIDS
Day. Please check you local listings for time and details.
